Upgrading Using microSD Card

These instructions apply to applicable Non-Windows® based Snap-on diagnostic tools with a microSD card and USB connection.

This document provides alternate instructions for upgrading diagnostic tool software using the tool’s microSD card, and your Chrome/ScanBay laptop (equipped with SD card slot).

As this instruction sheet is intended for multiple markets, these instructions may apply to other diagnostic tools not listed in the example. All images and illustrations used in this document are intended as examples, and are for reference only.

Before You Begin

Read the following important information before you perform this procedure.

To use this method a microSD-to-SD card adapter is required. microSD card adapters can be purchased from most electronics type stores, or online. If an adapter is not available, use the standard USB cable method.

Secure digital cards (MicroSD, SD, etc.) are sensitive to electrostatic discharges (ESD) and can be easily damaged by static electricity. Before handling these types of cards, ground yourself by touching a metal object that is grounded, to allow any built up static electricity to discharge.

IThe diagnostic tool is inoperable without the card. Do not lose or damage the MicroSD card. Do not allow the card to fall into the housing during removal or installation.

Diagnostic Software Upgrade

1. Turn on the diagnostic tool, and select Tools>Connect-to-PC.

USB cable connection is not required.

2. Return to the Home screen, then turn off the diagnostic tool.
3. Remove the MicroSD card from the diagnostic tool by gently pressing it down and then releasing. The card will pop-up and can be removed.

4. Insert the MicroSD card into an adapter.

Some adapters feature a write-lock that MUST be in the unlocked position for this method to work.

Ensure the laptop is being powered by its AC power supply during the upgrade process.

5. Locate the SD card slot on the Chrome/ScanBay laptop.

6. If required, remove the SD slot protector (simulated card) from the laptop SD card slot.
7. Insert the adapter (with the MicroSD card in it) into the SD card slot on the laptop.
8. Start ScanBay and complete the software upgrade delivery process.
9. Once the software upgrade is complete, remove the adapter from the laptop.
10. Remove the MicroSD card from the adapter.

Be careful when inserting the MicroSD card into the diagnostic tool. If the card is inserted at an angle the card may be damaged.

Do NOT turn the diagnostic tool on BEFORE inserting the card. The diagnostic tool MUST be off when the card is inserted.

11. Ensure the diagnostic tool is off, then insert the MicroSD card into the diagnostic tool.

The diagnostic tool must be powered by its AC power supply during the upgrade process. If the tool loses power during the upgrade process the tool may be damaged.

12. Connect the AC power supply to the diagnostic tool. The tool will automatically turn on.
13. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the upgrade installation process on the diagnostic tool.
14. If required, reinstall the SD slot protector (simulated card) into the laptop SD card slot to prevent damage.
